This would have been posted last night had I not fallen asleep about the 2am hour. D'oh! My head was in a tizzy so I decided to take a break from reading and watch a movie. If you haven't seen Away We Go you need to rent it immediately! Maya Rudolph is amazing! I love she! HAHA!
Anyway, back to reading...so after the movie I picked up The Great Gatsby by F. Scott Fitzgerald. This novel is quite possibly one of my favorite books ever written. I dunno why I love it so, but I just do. I first read it back in Sophmore English II Academic and reread it at least once a year. I often say that I'm a bad English major because I tend to stay away from "classic" literature, but this is one exception to the rule. I wanna go to one of Gatsby's parties on the Island and have some fun! :)
After Gatsby, I reread another of my faves Edna O'Brien's House of Splendid Isolation. If you've never read this book, I suggest you pick it up! It tells the story of an Irish woman (Josie) who is housing an IRA terrorist (McGreevy). It begins in present day, but then goes back in time a bit to help us fully understand the character of Josie. The unlikely bond that is formed between Josie and McGreevy was one of the things I explored in my senior thesis. I did a comparitive analysis of Irish Literature and literature from the American South, using this novel and Zora Neale Hurston's Their Eyes Were Watching God. I got an A if you were wondering! ;) Anyway, yes back to the book. Check it out and let me know what you think about it. At first I found it to be a bit boring, but once I got into the thick of it, I loved it!
After Splendid..., I started A is for Alibi by Sue Grafton. At least I attempted to start it. I woke up this morning face down in chapter 2, haha! So I think I'm going to try and finish it later today.
This read-a-thon thing was fun! I'd definitely do it again. Muchos thankos go to Miss Reads4Pleasure for letting me know about this! :)
